Connecting The World Through Engaged Discussion
Lectures + Exhibitions + Symposia
Kent State University
College of Architecture and Environmental Design
You can watch the recorded Fall 2024 lectures here
Two things that matter to the college are building discourse and expanding networks. Lacking these, a program is no more than the sum of its curricular parts. With them we learn, grow, aspire, and contribute to designing and building a better world.
The Lectures and Events are dedicated to these purposes: our students, our faculty, and the professional community. The lineup speaks for itself. Please join us in person or online.
LECTURES
Accomplished design professionals and thought leaders critically frame their work in relation to emerging global and local contexts—modeling excellence and transformational initiative that earned them international recognition.
EXHIBITIONS
Presented in the Lawrence R. and Sandra C. Armstrong Gallery, we are exposing our community of students, professionals, faculty, and friends to progressive work of established and emerging design and thought leaders—the future is now.
Sponsor Spotlight:
Special thanks to lecture sponsors who help make this possible:
The annual Perspectus Lecture is presented each year by Perspectus, an award winning, full-service architecture firm based in Cleveland, Ohio that is committed to creating exceptional experiences through architectural design. Their work spans a broad range of building types including healthcare, higher-ed, hospitality, civic, community, cultural and community buildings, as well as senior living and historic architecture. They are strategic partners of Kent State’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Their staff regularly serve on the faculty, their leadership also serves on the College’s Advisory Board, and they were instrumental in the founding of the Master of Healthcare Design Program.
The annual Bowen Lecture is presented each year by Richard L. Bowen + Associates, a multidisciplinary, full-service, Cleveland-based firm that brings architecture, engineering, and construction services to Northeast Ohio and around the nation. In partnership with Weiss-Manfredi Architects, they won the international competition for the John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design and served as its Architect of Record. The resulting LEED platinum building, which won the 2021 Green Building Legacy Award from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), links the campus to downtown Kent at the urban scale, places design students in a north-lit cascading studio, and reveals exquisite detailing to aspiring design and construction management students—supporting design and construction excellence at the college. Bowen + Associates design a wide range of project types and are known for the quality of their work.
